Bhimsen Joshi

Pandit Bhimsen Gururaj Joshi ( Kannada: ಪಂಡಿತ ಭೀಮಸೇನ ಗುರುರಾಜ ಜೋಷಿ,Marathi: पंडित भीमसेन जोशी, born February 4, 1922) is one of India's must renowned vocalists in the Hindustani classical tradition. A member of the Kirana Gharana (stream), he is particularly renowned for the khayal form of singing, as well as for his popular renditions of devotional music (bhajans and abhangs). He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, on November 4, 2008.[1]
